The Person of Christ: His Work.

Notes from Myer Pearlman Knowing the Doctrines of the Bible.

Introduction.

The Major Work which Christ performed was to die for the sins of the world.
Mat 1:21  And she shall bear a son, and you shall call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins.
Joh 1:29  The next day John sees Jesus coming to him and says, Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Included in this atoning work is the Death, the Burial, the Resurrection and the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus.
He must not only die for, but also live for us; He must not only rise from the dead but also ascend to intercede for before the Throne of God.

Rom 8:34  Who is he condemning? It is Christ who has died, but rather also who is raised, who is also at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.
Rom 4:24  but for us also to whom it is to be imputed, to the ones believing on Him who has raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
Rom 4:25  who was delivered because of our offenses and was raised for our justification.

Rom 5:10  For if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Questions for Research and Review.

  1. What is the central doctrine of the New Testament?
1Co 15:1  And, brothers, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you have received, and in which you stand;
1Co 15:2  by which you also are being kept safe, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.
1Co 15:3  For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received, that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures,
1Co 15:4  and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures;

2. Why is the Preaching of the Cross so important to Christianity?
3. If the Human Condition of sin, is the problem with mankind, how did Jesus deliver us from the Guilt and power of sin? Hebrews 5:9
4. Why can’t man remove the sin problem on his own by his own efforts?
5. Explain how deliverance came from God's side?
6. What is the real meaning of ‘atonement’?
7. How was Christ’s Vicarious Atonement prefigured in the Old Testament?
The Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Memorize:

Isa 53:6  All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, each one to his own way; and Jehovah has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Col 1:19  For it pleased the Father that in Him all fullness should dwell.
Col 1:20  And through Him having made peace through the blood of His cross, it pleased the Father to reconcile all things to Himself through Him, whether the things on earth or the things in Heaven.
1Pe 2:24  He Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that dying to sins, we might live to righteousness; by whose stripes you were healed. MKJV
Act 20:28  Therefore take heed to yourselves, and to all the flock in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to feed the church of God which He has purchased with His own blood.
