The Person of Jesus Christ: Lord of the Universe.

This Title of Jesus Christ .Lord, indicates His Deity, His Exaltation and His Sovereignty. Notes from Myer Pearlman P.148 -150

Lord = Greek (Kurios).

G2962 κύριος kurios Thayer Definition:
1) he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master, lord
1a) the possessor and disposer of a thing
1a1) the owner; one who has control of the person, the master
1a2) in the state: the sovereign, prince, chief, the Roman emperor
1b) is a title of honour expressive of respect and reverence, with which servants greet their master
1c) this title is given to: God, the Messiah
Part of Speech: noun masculine
He is risen from the Dead and He IS LORD

(a.)His Deity

The title “Lord” when used before a name, conveys the thought of Deity to both Jews and Gentiles. The  word, Lord, in Greek (Kurios) was equivalent to Jehovah in the Greek Translation of the Old Testament. Therefore to the Jews Lord Jesus was clearly an ascription of His Deity. When Caesar the emperor of the Romans referred to Himself as “Lord Caesar”, the gentiles clearly understood that the emperor was claiming for Himself Divinity.
The Christians so understood the term, and chose rather to suffer persecution than to ascribe to a man a title that  belonged only to One truly Divine Being. Only to Him whom God had exalted would they ascribe Lordship and render worship.

(b.) Exaltation.

In eternity Christ possess title, “Son of God”, by virtue of His relationship to God.Php 2:8  And being recognized as truly human, He humbled Himself and even stooped to die; yes, to die on a cross.
Php 2:9  It is in consequence of this that God has also so highly exalted Him, and has conferred on Him the Name which is supreme above every other,
Php 2:10  in order that in the Name of JESUS every knee should bow, of beings in Heaven, of those on the earth, and of those in the underworld,
Php 2:11  and that every tongue should confess that JESUS CHRIST is LORD, to the glory of God the Father.

In History, He earned the title “Lord” by dying and rising for the Salvation of mankind.
Act 2:36  "Therefore let the whole House of Israel know beyond all doubt that God has made Him both LORD and CHRIST--this Jesus whom you crucified."
Act 10:36  The Message which He sent to the descendants of Israel, when He announced the Good News of peace through Jesus Christ--He is Lord of all--that Message you cannot but know;
Rom 14:9  For this was the purpose of Christ's dying and coming to life--namely that He might be Lord both of the dead and the living.

Jesus Christ by his victory over death and resurrection to the Father’s Right hand; has been honoured with the Rulership over everyone and everything. He loved us and gave Himself for us.
Rev 1:5  and from Jesus Christ, the truthful witness, the first of the dead to be born to Life, and the Ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins with His own blood,
Rev 1:6  and has formed us into a Kingdom, to be priests to God, His Father--to Him be ascribed the glory and the power until the Ages of the Ages. Amen.

This claim has been acknowledged by Millions throughout the centuries and the Cross has become the stepping stone by which Jesus has ascended to sovereignty over men’s hearts.

(c.) Sovereignty
In Egypt Jehovah revealed Himself to israel as redeemer and Saviour; at Sinai, as Lord and King. The two go together, for He who became their Saviour has a right to be their Lord and Ruler. That is why the Ten Commandments begin with the Declaration, “I am the Lord Thy God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of Bondage.” Ex 20:2 In other words, “I, the Lord, who redeemed you, have the right to Rule over you.”
And so it was with Christ and His people. The early Christians this instinctively - as all true disciples do - that the One who redeemed them from sin and destruction has a right to be the Lord of their Lives.

Man is a sinner by nature. If man is pure then God shouldn’t have sent Jesus to pay for our sins. There is no truth to the belief that “Good men go to heaven"

Bought with a price they are not their own:
1Co 6:19  Or do you not know that your bodies are a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is within you--the Spirit whom you have from God?
1Co 6:20  And you are not your own, for you have been redeemed at infinite cost. Therefore glorify God in your bodies.
We belong to Him who died and rose from the dead for us.
2Co 5:15  and that He died for all in order that the living may no longer live to themselves, but to Him who died for them and rose again.

Therefore the title “Lord” applied to Jesus by His Followers means: “the who by His death for me, has earned the place of sovereign in my heart, and whom I feel constrained to worship and serve with all my powers”.

He who has given us New Life instinctively has the right to tell us how to live our lives.
IF JESUS IS OUR SAVIOUR HE MUST BE OUR LORD.
