The Fulfillment of the Prophecies concerning the Messiah in the Old Testament.
We have seen that the Christ, the Messiah, was to come from the House of David. Upon Him would rest the Spirit of the Lord in a way never before seen or known.
Memorize:
Isa 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord Jehovah is on Me; because Jehovah has anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
Isa 61:2 to preach the acceptable year of Jehovah and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;

(b) The Fulfillment or Realisation of these Prophecies:
At the Jordan River, when Jesus was Baptised in water, the Holy Spirit descended and remained on Him and the Voice of the Father said, “You are my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” In other words He was say to Jesus,”You are My Son (the Son of Jehovah), Your Coming was predicted by the prophets, and i hereby endow You with all authority and Power for Your Mission on earth, and I’m sending You forth with My Blessing”.
Jesus baptism and Anointing by the Holy Spirit. The Voice of the Father from heaven says "You are my Beloved Son in whom I ma well pleased". |
The people of Israel looked for “a wrong” Messiah.
They expected a “strongman” who should be a soldier/statesman who would deliver them from the Colonial power of the Romans. Jesus never swerved from His God-given mission to save the lost. He did not entangle Himself in the contemporary political situation.
He even forbade people He’d healed to publicize His fame least His Ministry be misunderstood as an uprising against Rome.
Mat 12:15 But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew Himself from there. And great crowds followed Him, and He healed them all.
Mat 12:16 And He warned them that they not make Him known,
Compare.
Luk 23:5 And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place.
He forbade the public proclamation of His Messiahship after the testimony on the Mount of Transfiguration.
Mat 16:20 Then He warned His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.
Summit of Mount Hermon |
Mat 17:9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.
He was not going to accused of being an agitator nor unpatriotic . He was not accused of Difficulties with the Roman government Matt 22:15-21
He faithfully followed not carnal methods and instead had a spiritual agenda so that Pilate, Rome's Representative said, “I find no fault in this man”.
Jesus preached the Kingdom of God, describing it's standards and it's spiritual nature, inspiring people to seek and hunger after the righteousness which comes from the Reign of God in the heart.
There was a group who recognized that this was the Christ.
The Samaritan Woman at the Well
Joh 4:25 The woman said to Him, I know that Messiah is coming, who is called Christ. When He has come, He will tell us all things.
Joh 4:26 Jesus said to her, I AM, the One speaking to you.
Joh 9:35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, He said to him, Do you believe on the Son of God?
The Man born Blind which Jesus healed when he had put mud on his eyes.
Joh 9:36 And he answered and said, Who is He, Lord, that I might believe on Him?
Joh 9:37 And Jesus said to him, You have both seen Him, and it is He who is speaking with you.
Joh 9:38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshiped Him.
Andrew, Simon Peter’s Brother:
Joh 1:40 One of the two who heard John and followed Him was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
Joh 1:41 He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, We have found the Messiah (which is, being translated, the Christ).
The nation of Israel as a whole did not connect His Miracles and spiritual ministry with Messiahship. They knew Him as an able teacher, a mighty preacher of the Kingdom even a prophet. This they freely admitted.
Mat 16:13 And coming into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked His disciples, saying, Who do men say Me to be, the Son of Man?
Mat 16:14 And they said, Some say, John the Baptist; some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
God had promised to set up an earthly Kingdom of Messiah.
Zec 14:9 And Jehovah shall be King over all the earth; in that day there shall be one Jehovah, and His name shall be one.
Zec 14:10 All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. And it shall rise and dwell in its place, from Benjamin's Gate to the place of the First Gate; to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananeel to the king's winepresses.
Zec 14:11 And they shall dwell in it, and there shall never again be a shutting in, but Jerusalem shall dwell safely.
Amo 9:11 In that day I will raise up the booth of David that has fallen, and close up its breaks; and I will raise up its ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old;
Amo 9:12 so that they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the nations on whom My name is called, says Jehovah who is doing this.
Amo 9:13 Behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that the plowman and the reaper shall draw near, the treader of grapes, and he who draws along the seed. And the mountains will drip must, and all the hills will be dissolved.
Amo 9:14 And I will turn back the captivity of My people Israel, and they shall build the cities which are desolate, and they shall live in them. And they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine. They shall also make gardens and eat their fruit.
Amo 9:15 And I will plant them on their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, says Jehovah your God.
Jesus knew that there needed to be a spiritual cleansing and restoration of Israel before the Reign of Messiah and the setting up of the Kingdom.
His Message "Repent for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Both the leaders and the people refused to meet the condition of repentance.
The Leaders: Mat 21:31 Which of the two did the will of his father? They said to Him, The first. Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you that the tax-collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
Mat 21:32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him. But the tax-collectors and the harlots believed him. And when you had seen it, you did not repent afterwards so that you might believe him.
They lost the privileges of the Kingdom. Matthew 21:43 Notes from Myer Pearlman Pps 155 - 158
