The Doctrine of the Person and Work of OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Introduction.
“His Birthday is kept across the World. His Death-day sets a gallows against every sky-line.. WHO IS HE? This is the question that everyone on planet earth has to answer.

Jesus, Himself, asked, “Whom do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” Peter gave the right answer when he replied, “ You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

The true explanation comes from the pages of the New Testament, written by man who knew Him best, and who for that Knowledge gave their lives. Notes from Myer pearlman: Knowing the Doctrines of the Bible.
Today we are going to look at the Nature of Christ  as
Answering Who is He?
  1. The Son of God. ( His Deity).

The title “Son of God” shows His Origin. He is born of God. Therefore this Title proclaims His Deity. He is not a son of God in a General Sense like men and angels even  though Arianists like the JW'S would like to Him to this. He is the Son of God in a very unique sense. Jesus is described as sustaining towards God a relationship not shared by any other on this planet.  Note the following:
  1. The Consciousness of Christ

What was the content of His Self Consciousness; i.e. what did He know about Himself?
Luke records that as a young boy He was conscious of two things:
  1. He had a special relationship to God His father and
  2. He had a special mission on earth  “His Father’s Business”.
The When and how this consciousness came to Him is a mystery. He was always the Son of God but at some point it dawned upon Him. Note these Scriptures:
Mat 3:17  And lo, a voice from Heaven, saying, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Here at the Jordan River after His Baptism the Voice of the Father corroborated and confirmed His Inner Consciousness.
Mat 4:3  And when the tempter came to Him, he said, If You are the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
Satan, himself, acknowledged that He was the Son of God.
Mat 16:15  He said to them, But who do you say I am?
Mat 16:16  And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Peter gave testimony to His Deity and Messiahship.
Mat 26:63  But Jesus was silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, I adjure you by the living God that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.
Mat 26:64  Jesus said to him, You said it. I tell you more. From this time you shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of the heavens.
Mat 26:65  Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses? Behold, now you have heard his blasphemy.

b. The Claims of Christ Himself.

Joh 16:28  I came forth from the Father, and have come into the world. Again I leave the world and go to the Father.
Notes by Adam Clark
I came forth from the Father - With whom I existed from eternity in glory.
Am come into the world - By my incarnation.
I leave the world - By my death.
And go to the Father - By my ascension. These four words contain the whole economy of the Gospel of man’s salvation, and a consummate abridgment of the Christian faith. This gave the disciples a key to the whole of our Lord’s discourse; and especially to that part, Joh_16:16, that had so exceedingly embarrassed them, as appears by Joh_16:17, Joh_16:18.

Joh 20:21  Then Jesus said to them again, Peace to you. As My Father has sent Me, even so I send you.
A.C. As I was sent to proclaim the truth of the Most High, and to convert sinners to God, I send you for the very same purpose, clothed with the very same authority, and influenced by the very same Spirit.

Mat 11:27  All things are delivered to Me by My Father. And no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son will reveal Him.  He claimed a Divine Knowledge and Fellowship.

Joh 14:9  Jesus said to him, Have I been with you such a long time and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father. And how do you say, Show us the Father?
Joh 14:10  Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in Me? The Words that I speak to you I do not speak of Myself, but the Father who dwells in Me, He does the works.
Joh 14:11  Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the very works themselves.
He claimed to unveil the Fathers Being in Himself.M.Pearlman

In Mark 2:5-10 He assumes divine Prerogatives by showing He has power to forgive sins.

Joh 6:39  And this is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all which He has given Me I should lose nothing but should raise it up again at the last day.
Joh 6:40  And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes on Him should have everlasting life. And I will raise him up at the last day.

Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead
Joh 11:23  Jesus said to her, Your brother shall rise again.
Joh 11:24  Martha said to Him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
Joh 11:25  Jesus said to her, I am the Resurrection and the Life! He who believes in Me, though he die, yet he shall live.
Joh 11:26  And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?
Joh 11:27  She said to Him, Yes, Lord, I have believed that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who has come into the world.

Joh 5:22  For the Father judges no man, but has committed all judgment to the Son,
Joh 5:23  so that all should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
It is Jesus, the Son of God, who is the Judge and Arbiter of every man’s destiny.

Jesus demanded a surrender and allegiance of His Followers that only God could claim.
Mat 10:37  He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

Have you acknowledged that Jesus is the Christ the Son of the Living God. Have you surrendered you all to Him and truly become His follower for the rest of your days. Now is the Day of Salvation. If you confess your sin He is faithful and just to forgive your sin and TO CLEANSE YOU OF ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.
